🪸 NoCo Reef Board Meeting Minutes

Date: September 27, 2025

1. Reef Guardian Roles

• Members can help by:

  • Passing out stickers/cards

  • Directing reefers to the forum

  • Posting and sharing events online

  • Spreading the word about NoCo Reef

• Emphasis on active participation to grow visibility and engagement.

2. Upcoming Meetings (Next 3–6 Months)

• October: Frag Swap at Alex & Steve’s – “Frag Swag” open house

• November: Fins Up Reef – Open House Nov. 29, 1–4 PM

  • 15% off all month; 20% off meeting day

• December: Liquid Kingdom – Open House Dec. 13, 4–7 PM

  • 10% off all corals all month; 20% off meeting day

• January: Elite Reef – TBD

• February: TBD

• Add “Open House” terminology to all event promotions.

• Each month will include an educational component hosted by the sponsor store.

3. Website & Communication

• Discussion on how to update the website.

• Krista will create a promo video walking through the website and showing how it works.

• Alex will create an Article Section to feature educational content and community topics.

4. Goals & Outreach

• Current membership: 101 signed-up members.

• Focus areas:

  • Increase member involvement and awareness.

  • Use swag and store partnerships to drive traffic to NoCo Reef.

  • Create “zones” for reef guardians to cover and represent the club locally.

  • Help stores by answering common reef questions via the club platform.

5. Education & Content

• Feature educational articles or videos from local stores.

• Establish regular posting schedule to build familiarity and return visits.

• Encourage community-based “reef-builder” discussions.

• Explore partnerships with Reef Clubs of America and the Colorado Koi Club.

6. Sponsor Criteria

• Sponsors are chosen for their community contribution — “people in the hobby for the hobby,” not commercial motives.

• Ensure website focuses on this.

7. Local Fish Store Highlights

• Elite Reef – Quarantined fish

• Fins Up Reef – Coral & fish variety

• Aquatic Art – Coral specialty

• MC Aquatics – Exotic fish

• Liquid Kingdom – Fish & coral variety

• Biggs Lagoon – LPS focus

• Underwater World – SPS focus

• Aqua Imports – Reliable fish, coral colonies

• Plus: Fish Den, Pet World, Animal Attraction, Fish Crew, Alpine Koi & Reef, AtoZoanthids, GHI, ASD, Reef Nutrition, and others.

• Goal: Connect with Petcos to refer hobbyists to NoCo Reef.

8. Additional Notes

• Great idea to replicate Jake Adams’ “Fish Store Saturdays.”

• “Cyber Month” will feature GHI & AtoZoanthids as online sponsors.

• Continue networking and strengthening relationships with local and online sponsors.
